A blog about running a small (very small) custom art company while chasing around two young children.

Ice!
We had a pretty big storm yesterday. Lots of freezing rain and snow. It is very pretty, but a little intimidating to hear the large trees creaking when they sway in the breeze. We have a couple branches down in our backyard that broke a couple railings on our fence. This weekend Eli will be able to make a big snowman, he is excited about that. It seems like every year towards the end of January/beginning of February we get a big snow.
Our power was out all day yesterday setting me back a bit on custom orders. I should have them all finished tonight and ready to ship tomorrow. I'm anxious to finish a few more oil paintings since they take soooo long to dry. I want them to be ready in April so I can apply to the Hyde Park show in person. That show is in October so if I get them done soon they should be dry enough for the show.

Clock and Fish Tank Ramblings
I just joined Amazon.com product ads. We'll see if I get any traffic. Supposedly my clocks are searchable, but when I searched Melting wall clocks they didn't come up. Hmmm. I should be hearing back from the Amazon guy this week and I'll ask him about it.
I've had a couple of sales recently. That is encouraging. Sales dropped of to close to nothing a week or so before Christmas. I'd be lying if I said I minded the little break, though.
Earlier today I was pondering the very large sheets of 1/2 inch Plexiglas in my garage given to my by a neighbors friend. I was thinking about making some kind of greenhouse. Then I thought, No!, I will make a fish tank! I was quite excited about the idea. I think I'll make it five to six feet high and one and a half to two feet square. Tall and skinny. I'll have to make some kind of stand for it to sit in to avoid tipping accidents. I think it will be super cool! Our house is small so it will fit nicely in a corner. Then maybe I'll make the greenhouse thingy to extend out of the kitchen window, Nick would love that. (note the sarcasm). I think he feels like he lives in a jungle sometimes. Oh well, plants make you happy and clean the air.

Third Oil Painting
So I'm done with my third oil painting. I think it looks pretty good. Maybe not quite as "Wow" as the first two, but I like it. Feel free to let me know what you think. As usual, the paint is still wet so may have some glare in the photo. I have a couple edges to clean up a bit and the sides to paint, but the image itself is done.

Second Oil Painting
The paint is still wet so it is a little shiny in some places. I am very happy with how it turned out! When I first did the sketch in acrylic I didn't like how it looked at all and almost scrapped it. I'm glad I didn't. Just goes to show if you believe in your image for the final product you can accomplish it. This one measures 30" X 40".

Finished Guitar Chair Pics
I just realized I haven't posted pictures of the completed guitar chair. Never heard from the customer so I assume they liked it. I think it looks fantastic and I can't wait to collaborate with Rick on another chair.

Blast From The Past
This music video cracks me up. The look alike women, unabashed cleavage shots, fantastically stylish dresses, suggestive dance moves, bad dance moves, a rocking song that will never get old. I've got to get myself one of those pink swimsuits!!

Sneak Peak
Here is a sneak peak of my second oil painting. I think it is turning out quite nice. I should have it completed in the next couple of days.
So Holy Crackers people are actually looking at and commenting on my blog! Woo-Hoo!

Damn Cats
So I guess it is kind of my fault. I have a squirrel feeder full of yummy peanuts, a bird seed block on a tree stump, another feeder that drops seeds whenever the birds visit it, a feeding log thing stuffed with scrumptious something that birds and squirrels like, and a cat. No major fatalities yet, but it is just a matter of time I'm afraid. I won't always be sitting near the window where I can beat on it screaming "No!" when I see an attack in progress.

First Oil Painting
My first oil painting. It is still wet in this photo so some areas are kind of shiny. I still need to paint the sides , I'll probably do that in the next week or two. I am very happy with it and just started my second painting tonight. I was hoping to apply for a gallery show this May but I won't be able to afford the ten canvases I'll need to meet the quota. I am going to try my luck at selling paintings on Ebay and Etsy. It is hard to tell if they will be well received or not as I haven't seen anything like what I am doing. I get very frustrated when I see abstract crapola being sold in high volumes. I don't get it. I guess when I look at a painting I look at what amount of skill and thought would have to go into it and some things are clearly just scribbles on a canvas. Yet people eat it up. Weird.
