Kristen and Chase

I just finished this portrait of my sister-in-law and her newborn Chase. I did this at the request of my mother-in-law. I think it looks great!

Newest Painting

I finished this painting last week. You can see in the photo it is still wet. It isn't my favorite, but I am very happy with it.

Art show prejudging

Well, I'm thinking I didn't get into the art show. The judge seemed to spend 5-10 minutes with each person and I was only with her for 3 minutes. She was very nice, I didn't get a bad feeling from her, but it just seemed too quick. She asked me about my work and I feel good about what I said. I feel like the pieces I took were strong. I guess it is just wait and see. I'm going to start listing stuff online. I was waiting until the prejudging to do that, so I'm excited to see if I get any response online. I realize it isn't going to happen over night. I have a bunch of new ideas I'm looking forward to trying. Now if I could just sell some clocks..................

Prejudging is Here!

So I get to wake up at 6:00 (yikes!)tomorrow to get ready to attend the prejudging for Hyde Park's art show tomorrow. I was really nervous but after a nice pep talk from my mother I feel much better. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!

Throwing Pots

My mom and I started wheel pottery classes last Saturday. After the first class I was thinking maybe it wouldn't be my thing. My two pots weren't anything too look at. But we had a practice session yesterday and I'm into it! My cylinders were quite nice I think. I definitely look at pottery different now. I have a mug my parents brought back from England for me when I was eight or nine. It is my cherished mug that NO ONE else is allowed to use. It was thrown on a wheel and I have new appreciation for the skill it took to create it. If I can get a set of mugs, a flower pot, and a pitcher out of this class I'll be excited.
I'm thinking about making some earings too. My ears are a gauge 6 and it is really hard to find feminine earings in that size. Maybe I can create something myself. We'll see.

Tiger Swallowtail

Here is my newest butterfly. I still need to paint the white background and black sides. I might tweet a few things on the butterfly itself tomorrow. It is my favorite so far!

Prints

I was glancing through previous posts and realized I never updated about my prints. They were poopy. I'm going to have my paintings scanned and do giclees. The problem is that scanning is expensive so it will be a process spread out over the next few months (and hopefully I sell some clocks!). My parents really like one of my portraits so they are going to pay for that one to be scanned and I'll take a butterfly in to be scanned at the same time.

I did this butterfly last night. I still need to paint the white background and the black sides. I'm pretty happy with it.

butterfly study 2

I just finished my second butterfly painting. I love it! It is going to be one of the paintings I take to the art show prejudging in two weeks. I feel like putting it in a glass box to dry because I will freak out if anything happens to it.

new butterfly

Here is a sneak peak of my new butterfly. So far I think it blows the first one out of the water. I'm deciding on whether or not to do a shadow. I should have it finished tomorrow and I'll post pics of it when it is completed.

Butterfly

It is two o'clock in the morning. Life is going to really suck in five hours when the kids wake up. But, I felt the need to finish this painting tonight. I really like it and I can't wait to do another butterfly.

UPDATE: I used to have the painting of the original butterfly painting on this post. But after going through my posts I realized it was horrendous and took it down. Everyone politely tried to tell me that it sucked, but it wasn't until I painted the three other butterflies pictures above that I realized just how truly distrubing it was.
